School Based Mental Health Program
In many of Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre programs we work with families directly in their home. In the School Based Mental Health Program we go to the child’s school and work with them there. At times school is the main problem area for children. Teachers and principals identify who they would like us to work with. These children are between five and twelve years of age, and are typically verbally and/or physically aggressive. Four full-time workers are in 10 different schools across Ottawa.
The School Based Mental Health Program is funded by the Ministry of Community & Social Services (MCSS)/ Ministry of Children & Youth Services (MCYS) and the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB). It is provided in six schools designated by the OCDSB, and four schools designated by the OCSB.
